Japanese rarity, Gyokuro is grown in the shade under straw mats for about two weeks prior to harvest. “Shade tea” develops higher caffeine and L-Theanine content, responsible for increased mental clarity and focus, as well as distinct aroma and flavour. The fine, deep green, slightly shining tea leaf is rolled into fine needles, and produces a fruity, pale green cup with wonderful, fresh umami flavour.

The leaves may be brewed two to three times, each time extending the brewing time.
